Protect Your Skin With Lipidol Sunscreen Oil

For those of you that are familiar with Bio-Oil, you’d know that it’s been a tried and tested brand for many years and trusted by many as a rescue remedy for scars and stretchmarks. What you might not have known was that Bio-Oil introduced a sister brand onto the market called Lipidol in 2014 and this fast growing brand is becoming the next big thing to hit the beauty industry.

Here’s what Lipidol has to say about their products: “The skin’s natural way of looking after itself is through the production of oils known as lipids. By using oils in daily skincare you help your skin maintain its natural way of working. The outcome is skin that stays in balance, avoids problems and radiates with good health. The difference between your current skin and your best skin could simply be oil! Lipidol is the world’s first range of oils for daily skincare. It was developed by the makers of Bio-Oil.”

I think Lipidol makes a very valid point in which they encourage feeding your skin what it already produces as opposed to introducing new products that may or may not work with your skin. I’m still very new to this brand and I was so interested to see that they offer a variety of products for every skincare need. I’m most interested in the cleanser and overnight oil as I know for sure that any oil based product that is used to remove makeup works like a charm and I’m also certain that the overnight oil will help replenish oils lost during the day. Night time is the best time to use oils and serums as that’s the optimum time when your skin regenerates.

I recently got sent the sunscreen oil and I was a bit confused with this product at first… I initially thought: If you don’t want your skin to burn, why would you fry it by applying oil all over? There’s a misconception with this product as a lot of the reviews that I’ve read about this, people seem to think that it’s to be used the same way as a sunblock i.e. for when you’re hitting the beach, spending the day by the pool, taking a hike etc. This is more of an everyday oil that creates an invisible barrier that helps to protect not only against the sun, but also against the harsh effects of wind and water.

Because the Lipidol sunscreen oil is only SPF 20, I’d anyway recommend using at least SPF 30 when spending prolonged periods of time in the sun. Since our skin is affected by UVA and UVB rays even when we’re driving in the car or sitting indoors next to a window, it’s still important to use a skin protector and that’s where products like Lipidol sunscreen oil comes in. I mean, who’s going to rub in that white sunblock every, single, day!

Anastasia Beverly Hills Glow Kit Review & Giveaway!

Where’s all my glowing girls at? Because this one is just for you! If by now if you haven’t put 2 and 2 together (pun intended ha-ha), I brought two Anastasia Beverly Hills Glow Kits back from New York and I’m giving one of them to you! One lucky What The Blog reader could own their very own original ABH Glow Kit and just in time for Christmas as well! 🙂

wtbimg_3133Whilst in New York I had one main mission to accomplish – find ABH Glow Kits! I’ve been head over hills in love with these ever since the entire American Instagram community have been going dilly over these and knew that I had to get my hands on a Glow Kit! Anastasia herself actually released these last year December as part of her birthday surprise and I can’t wait to see what she has up her sleeve for this year’s birthday.

Believe it or not, but these were actually difficult to source in NYC. I had to go to several different stores and finally managed to find them at Macy’s. I had my heart set on the Moonchild Glow Kit but do you think I would find it anywhere?! I eventually settled for Sun Dipped which I’m quite happy I did as it suits my complexion perfectly.

swatch-1swatch-2The palette contains both warm and cool tones and looks gorgeous on tanned complexions. At first I thought that Bronzed and Tourmaline were going to be too dark for me but they turned out to be my favorite highlighters on the palette as Bronzed looks stunning for that golden goddess glow and Tourmaline is the most amazing rose-gold highlighter I’ve ever used. I think it’s great that they included both warm and cool highlighters because I use the warmer highlighters for the high points of my cheeks and then the cooler highlighters for my nose and cupids bow.

The texture and formula is buttery and highly pigmented. So if you’re looking for a chill highlighter that’s going to give you a subtle glow then this is not the highlighter for you, I repeat this is not the highlighter for you! This highlighter has no chill and I love it!

The packaging is also high quality hard board and the magnets on the inside ensures that it remains shut at all times. You can easily remove the pans as well if you wish to place them in your own magnetic palette. They retail for $40 (approx. ZAR 560) and I actually think it’s so worth it for quality you’re getting from this palette.

wtbimg_3104wtbimg_3140I managed to bring an extra Glow Kit back with me and it’s the “That Glow” Glow Kit which is equally as beautiful. I believe it has more gold tones than bronze tones so if you love gold highlighters, then you’ll love this. If you’d like to stand a chance of owning your very own Anastasia Beverly Hills Glow Kit, then make sure you enter via the Gleam widget below:

Too Faced Melted Matte Liquid Lipstick Review & Giveaway

I recently picked up the new(ish) Too Faced Melted Matte Liquid Lipsticks as part of my Sephora/New York haul and I couldn’t have been happier that I reached for these! They were the first high end liquid lipsticks that I’ve ever owned and they exceeded my expectations far and beyond!

My first impression was instant love at first sight when I saw the packaging. Not only did it come in a lovely matte textured box that matched the color of the lipstick, but the packaging itself is beautiful! What I really loved about these was how easy it is to apply the liquid lipstick. If not the right texture or formula, liquid lipsticks can be a pain in the ass to apply but the Too Faced Melted Matte’s are nice and thin which means effortless application.

They are fast drying so you don’t need to wait really long to apply your second coat – if need be. I know a lot of people also complain about liquid lipsticks turning your lips into a cactus because they are so drying but the Melted Matte’s are infused with Avocado Oil, Vitamin E and Hyaluronic Spheres to aid in moisture retention. I personally can vouch for that as I have chronically dry lips all year round and it didn’t feel like they were about to crack in half.

The Melted Matte’s also seem to hold up really well even after having something to eat and drink. Note that this will mean it can also be a bit of a pain to remove so make sure you apply a fair amount of coconut oil or something similar to hydrate your lips!

img_2849wtbimg_2809img_2972wtbimg_2819They come in a total of 18 luxurious shades and vary from autumn nudes to bright pinks, there’s really a shade for everyone. The 2 that I grabbed for myself was Feelin’ Myself which is a soft peach-pink and the perfect summer shade and the other was Child Star which is an everyday-wear soft nude shade. Needless to say I’m absolutely in love with them both and so glad I chose those 2. They retail for $21 each which is roughly R294.00.

Now for the fun part: I grabbed 2 more of these Too Faced Melted Matte Liquid Lipsticks because I totally thought of you guys whilst on my New York trip 🙂 The 2 that I’ll be giving away is Queen B which is a soft mauve shade and then also a Child Star shade because one can never go wrong with a nude lippie.

Here’s what you can win:

Essence Matt Matt Matt Lipgloss

Essence have once again dropped the bomb with some amazing new makeup goodies and as soon as I saw the new Essence matt lipgloss range I just couldn’t wait to try it! The collection comes in 5 creamy textured lip glosses but I decided to only purchase 4 of the 5 as the 2 red one’s looked very similar.

Before I purchased these I assumed they were like liquid lipsticks and as soon as I started trying them on I suddenly became very disappointed, I suppose that will teach me to read up on products before buying them! The reason why I was disappointed was because this is a matt LIPGLOSS and not a LIPSTICK and I had different expectations from this product. Note that these are 2 very different things.

Nonetheless I gave them all a fair chance because unlike liquid lipsticks, these are creamy and non-drying on the lips which is always a bonus when wearing a matte lip product. Because they don’t dry, they are also very easy to remove and don’t stain the lips.

I’ve included swatches below so that you can get a feel of what each one looks like on the lips and also a brief explanation of what I thought of each one.

La Vie Est Belle:

wtbimg_2966When I bought these, this was my favorite as I’m obsessed with nude-pinky shades but this one didn’t apply as high-coverage as I expected. There was streakiness and because this doesn’t dry matte, you can’t really apply a second coat.

wtbimg_2962When I started applying this one it almost looked like it was the exact same color as my natural lips which is kind of weird because when I was done applying it, it actually looked really nice and suited me well. The coverage was better than La Vie Est Belle and it’s a wearable nude shade that will suit most women.

Girl Of Today:

wtbimg_2959I also enjoyed wearing this shade as the coverage was high and the product was easy to apply. I think this would be a nice every-day color to wear.

Ready, Set, Impress!:

wtbimg_2948This was also a bit sheer and caused streakiness which I wasn’t too fond of. It’s like the very light shades and the very dark shades didn’t do too well in the coverage department.

These are without a doubt not bad products, if anything the 2 middle shades (Beauty-Approved & Girl Of Today) were quite wearable with a decent amount of coverage. As far as high-coverage and long wear goes, I’m not so convinced. They also require a fair amount of clean-up around the lips as they tend to smudge over the lip line. Also if you look closely at the swatches, they aren’t as matte as you’d expect them to be.

As much as I love Essence and about 90% of all their products, I’m not so sure I’ll be reaching for these again. They only retail for about R44.50 at most participating re-sellers so it’s really not a bad price for what you’re getting.

Have you purchased any of the new Essence Matt Lipglosses yet?

Essence Update: Spring/Summer 2016

It’s always a good day when Essence releases an entire range of brand new never seen before makeup products and I literally jumped in my car and rushed off to Dischem as soon as I heard that the Essence update has hit our shelves! I usually always see the products months in advance on the profiles of the German beauty bloggers that I follow as they are always the first to receive them and I’ve had my eye on so many things!

I’m not doing a review right now of all the products otherwise you’d be reading for days! I’ll be sending out my reviews gradually on some of my favorite products in the upcoming weeks so keep an eye out for that. This post is just a quick introduction of what you can expect to see in stores.

c-_users_taryn_desktop_untitled-1Essence went ALL OUT this year with some of the hottest must-have lip products! 8 new matte lipsticks, 5 new matte lip glosses, 8 color and care lipsticks, 3 new tinted lip balms, 5 new 2-in-1 matte lipstick & liners and 2 new plumping lipglosses. I have mixed feelings about the matte lip glosses and I’ll post my review on that on Wednesday!

wtbuntitled-3Some of the products I’m most excited about this Essence update is the highlighter palette, the brightening concealer and the eyeshadow primer!

wtbuntitled-2Nail art galore! Not only is there now tons of nail art products to choose from, but Essence have now also included a lot of nail care items such as nail cleanser, SOS nail detox, growth boosting drops and mega last base coat.

wtbuntitled-4More eyeshadows to choose from! Also introducing their all new eye contour products which include an eyeshadow and a pencil.

All items will be rolled out to all Clicks, Dis-Chem Pharmacies, Selected Red Square Beauty Stores, Independent Pharmacies and Pick n Pay Stores during the upcoming weeks. For now you can get these products at all Dis-Chem Stores.

Have you managed to grab any of the new products yet? What did you think of them?

TARTE – Tartlette In Bloom Review and GIVEAWAY!

On my recent trip to New York in September, I spent a generous amount of time in Sephora’s all over the city. Well, 8 Sephora’s to be exact. Take a South African who has no access to high end makeup and put her in a beauty stricken city and that’s just what will happen! I picked up quite a few products that I’ll be sharing with you and reviewing over the next couple of weeks.  I thought I’d start off with the Tartlette In Bloom Eyeshadow Palette as that’s a very every day-wear kind of a palette and the shades are gorgeous! I often hear beauty Youtuber’s go on about an eyeshadow being soft and buttery and now I finally know what they mean!

wtbimg_2563First off, let’s take a second to admire how gorgeous the packaging is! It exudes the whole meaning of “In Bloom”. The packaging is also nice and weighty and comes with a full size mirror on the inside. With this palette you’ll get 12 beautifully pigmented shades which include 3 shimmer shades and 9 matte shades. When I said that the eyeshadows were soft and buttery I meant it. You literally have to apply the smallest amount of pressure when picking up the eyeshadow with your brush as a little goes a long way.

The color payoff is incredible and they are so easy to blend. I particularly love the versatility of this palette in which you can easily transform your look from day-makeup to night-makeup with the added extra dark eyeshadows. Did I mention that the palette smells like cocoa? LIKE COCOA?!

Sorry I’m getting too excited now…

If that wasn’t enough, this palette is also paraben and cruelty free! Now if you’re like me and you get a bit too overwhelmed by all the majestic eyeshadows that make up this palette, they’ve also included a “Look Card” on the inside of your package which gives you 2 very easy step-by-step looks that you can create yourself. This palette retails for $45 which is roughly R630. Here’s a look at what I did with the palette over the weekend:

wtbimg_0003wtbimg_2628wtbimg_01055Just as you thought I had forgotten about you, well I didn’t! I bought an extra TARTE Tartlette In Bloom Palette to give away to one of my lucky readers! All you have to do to enter is follow the steps on the Gleam widget and that’s it, your name’s in the draw!
