Now I’m not exactly what you can call a health freak but over the last few months my family and I have taken on a somewhat healthier approach to our eating habits. For us eating healthy meant x2 meat-free dinner days per week and a tuna salad somewhere in between. Quite sadly this is not enough if you wanted to fall into the ‘healthy eater’ category. The real struggle comes when you actually want to treat yourself to take-outs or restaurant dining. Restaurants often forget how to make healthy food, tasty food which is why I was excited to attend the opening launch of Cold Press as they were able to offer something new, different, appetizing to the taste buds, and most importantly, something healthy.
Cold Press Juice Bar is situated at the Cape Quarter Lifestyle Village in Green Point, Cape Town, a prime location for anyone on the move wanting to grab a quick bite. I attended their opening launch last week where we got to try some of their mouth-watering menu dishes and drinks. On arrival we were served some refreshing (and healthy!) Cold Press inspired cocktails which was blended with only the very best Absolut Vodka and Cold Press juices were used as the mixers.
Throughout the evening our taste buds were tantalized with their amazing sandwiches and tossed salads. I tried the Matador sandwich (chorizo, mozzarella, avo) and the Hot Tuna sandwich (tuna, tomato, avo, jalapenos). They were both exceptionally delicious, the flavors were paired together perfectly and all served on their famous 60% rye.
I tried nearly every salad they had to offer, all in their own way made you go MMM… The one that stood out for me the most was the Up Stream salad (Norwegian salmon, ricotta, rosa tomatoes, cucumber, avo, pumpkin seeds, baby leaf salad, lemon olive oil dressing). Now if you guys have read my About Me section, you’d know that I don’t eat sushi or any sort of raw fish. BUT I ate the Up Stream salad and I ate LOTS of it! It was so yummy! Definitely my favorite meal on the menu, 100% recommended and I’m certainly going back for more.
Of course what’s a dinner without a bit of dessert? Berry Manilow smoothies and Macaroons by MoonBean Unbakery made their rounds too.
If that’s not enough to get your healthy juices flowing, you’d be happy to know that Cold Press firmly believes that vitamins, enzymes or minerals in your juice should never be destroyed so they use non-heat producing extraction to keep your juice 100% natural and their juices are made fresh in store every day. They also have juice-cleanse-detox options available. I tried the Rookie 1-day detox which includes:
x1 Kaleifornication (kale, spinach, celery, cucumber, lemon, fresh ginger)
x1 Pink Ticket (pink grapefruit, pineapple, green apple, fresh mint)
x1 Dirty Beets (beetroot, carrot, green apple, fresh ginger)
x1 Lemeynne Water (lemon, cayenne pepper, maple syrup, filtered water)
x1 Pop My Berry (strawberry, green apple, coconut water)
x1 Johnny Cashew (raw cashews, dates, vanilla, coconut oil, cinnamon, Himalayan salt, filtered water)
Besides their juices being named quite creatively, your body will love you after a detox! For me, even though I hadn’t eaten anything throughout the day, I still had loads of energy as all the vitamins and nutrients your body requires can be found in the juices. The 6-pack Rookie detox can be purchased from Cold Press for R250.00
If you’re looking for a new spot that brings vibe, energy and style to the health food and drink market then Cold Press is the place you want to be at. Customers can enjoy a variety of salads, sandwiches, smoothies, coconut water, Kombucha, healthy snacks and even raw vegan pizzas.
