Valentines Shmalentines

Valentines Shmalentines

81cecce27a7d743a420be3e61e3aa195Valentines Day… Aaah probably the only day of the year I am absolutely dreading! Being this my first one in a very long time riding solo, I’m not quite sure what I should be doing with myself or whether it will even be safe to leave the house as the masses of hopeless romantics will be everywhere…

Due to some recent events that I wrote about here, I’d be lying if I said I haven’t jumped on the I-Hate-Valentines-Day bandwagon. Society puts so much pressure on us, whether you’re in a relationship or not, to celebrate Valentines Day to it’s full extent, to go out and buy those silly teddies that just get given to the dog as a chewing toy later on, to spend so much money on a date, chocolates, flowers… You name it! So naturally, if you’re single you’re going to feel very left out.

Another thing – you are not alone. You know all those other single people, well they also don’t have a cheesy day planned out for themselves, so quit feeling sorry for yourself. From my own personal experience, you could be in a relationship, and even then be so incredibly lonely. Yes you might encounter many couples having their date day/night, but then ask yourself: Are they even happy with each other? Maybe, maybe not. I know I wasn’t.

Now if you’re like me and you find yourself in the pool of  single people on Valentine’s Day, do not fret as I have your Valentines Day survival kit right here!

[ezcol_1half]What to do on Valentine’s Day:

  • Spoil yourself. After all you are saving top dollar on useless Valentine’s Day things
  • Find every single friend you know of and spend the day with them, they’re in the same boat and together you could think of ways to bypass the entire day
  • Bake something. This takes so much time and effort that you’ll eventually forget what day it is
  • Reflect on and celebrate your single-ness! Remember that ex that was weighing you down? Well guess what, they’re no longer around and you are finally free to do whatever you want to! And as this day is all about love, learn to love yourself, because if you don’t, no one will.
  • Make sure your day is action packed: beaching, boat cruising, hiking, road trips, shopping, picnics[/ezcol_1half] [ezcol_1half_end]What NOT to do on Valentine’s Day:
  • Go watch 50 Shades Of Grey, then…
  • Go buy tons of Lindt chocolate, then…
  • Go home and play Taylor Swift’s 1989, then…
  • Cry yourself to sleep because you don’t have a Christian Grey or an Audi R8 in your life[/ezcol_1half_end]

Okay, so that What NOT to do on Valentine’s Day was mainly for myself 🙂 but either way just don’t spend the day alone. Valentine’s day isn’t just about a romantic kind of love, it’s about all sorts of love so whether it be family or friends, make sure you’re surrounded by those that matter most to you.

So to my Valentine, wherever you might be… I know you must be lost, stop being so stubborn and please ask for directions…
